Slimming down Windows 7

Step 1:
First get a official iso from here
Official Windows 7 SP1 ISO Image Downloads

Step 2:
Download RT7 Lite Software
http://www.rt7lite.com/downloads.html

Step 3:
Download Unlocker software
UNLOCKER 1.9.2 BY CEDRICK 'NITCH' COLLOMB

Step 4:
Download GimageX
http://www.autoitscript.com/site/autoit-tools/gimagex/

Step 5:
Download Vlite
vLite - Windows Vista configuration tool

Step 6:
Once you downloaded the software all of it then install it.

Step 7:
Extract the Windows 7 ISO it has to be official iso (ONLY)

Step 8:
Run RT7 Lite Software

Step 9:
Let it complete the image process

Step 10:
Go into C:\Users\(Your User Name)\Temp\RT_Mount\Windows\winsxs\Backup
Delete everything inside it with UNLOCKER

Step 11:
Go into C:\Users\(Your User Name)\Temp\RT_Mount\Windows\System32\Recovery
Delete the winRE.WIM file with UNLOCKER



Step 12:
Go into C:\Users\(Your User Name)\Temp\RT_Mount\Windows\Web\Wallpaper
Delete all folders except windows folder with UNLOCKER

Step 13:
Go into C:\Users\(Your User Name)\Temp\RT_Mount\Windows\Resources\Themes
Delete all windows thenes exact Aero and Aero folder with UNLOCKER

Step 14:
Go into C:\Users\(Your User Name)\Temp\RT_Mount\Resources\Ease of Access Themes\
Delete all themes files exact basic and classic themes with UNLOCKER

Step 15:
Go into C:\Users\(Your User Name)\Temp\RT_Mount\Windows\Globalization\
Delete MCT Folder (This is Hidden) with UNLOCKER

Step 16:
Go into C:\Users\(Your User Name)\Temp\RT_Mount\Users\Public delete all sample files on this folder with UNLOCKER

Step 17:
Go into C:\Users\(Your User Name)\Temp\RT_Mount\Users\Recorded TV\Sample Media\
Delete Sample Folder with UNLOCKER

Step 18:
Go into C:\Users\(Your User Name)\Temp\RT_Mount\Users\Public Videos\Sample Videos\
Delete sample Video Folder with UNLOCKER

Step 19:
Go into C:\Users\(Your User Name)\Temp\RT_Mount\Users\Public Pictures\Sample Pictures
Delete Sample Picture Folder with UNLOCKER

Step 20:
Go into C:\Users\(Your User Name)\Temp\RT_Mount\Users\Public Music\Sample Music\
Delete Sample Music Folder with UNLOCKER

Step 21:
Close window and empty the Recycle Bin


Step 22:
Back too RT7Lite Software

Choose to delete

Step 23:
After Finish on RT7Lite you can also added TWEAK if you wanted too…

Step 24:
Run Gimagex select Apply Tab
Source where you install install.wim file
Destination: where you wanted to mounted the image at.

Step 25:
Click on Capture tab
Lets say we did windows Ultimate
Save it as: name Install2.wim put it same directory as where you made image at.
In Name it as: Windows 7 ULTIMATE
Description: Windows 7 ULTIMATE
Compression: Maximium
SKU: (If you did professional) leave blank (Ultimate) Select Ultimate
Display Name: Windows 7 ULTIMATE
Display Description: Windows 7 ULTIMATE

Hit Create button.

Step 26:
There 2 install.wim files delete first one says install.wim file keep it for backup….



Step 27:
Run Vlite Software
Select and browse your W7 Folder in task selection select components

Step 28:
In Components option select only GAMES, Languages, Component Cache (Winsxs) if you do not wants Windows Update Feature and updates…

Step 29:
Click on Apply if a message says appear select no wait until process done.

Step 30:
Look at the final size of the image then run it with Virtual Box

As far as I know it's not recommended to mess up with winsxs folder, not even Backup folder, it might cause some bugs after installation is done.

Just a suggestion though.

Yes it does mess it up backup is ok if people do not care for windows updates....
