Local Telephone Exchange - Cables Stolen Again...

I'm back on the net after 3 days (and even slower than before) because some idiot stole cables from the local telephone exchange again. I say again because it happened last year and the year before. Thousands of people were affected including doctors surgerys. There was no way to call the emergency services unless you had a mobile but even the reception for mobiles is crap at the best of times. You would haved thought that British Telecom and the police would be on to who ever is doing it by now.

copper sells good in some countries, but it sounds like they are removing these and selling the entire cable elsewhere.. strange. put in fiber, its cheap BT

How old is this thread lol? It hasn't happened since and the laws on selling scrap metal have changed to make it harder to sell. I guess fiber is just glass and not as valuable. BT are slowing rolling out fiber but it's usually just to a cabinet in the street and copper to the home.
