Change Windows 7 Boot Animation - Tutorial (PART 1)

[youtubenewage-os]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bxwOtEXDVqw[/youtubenewage-os]

Many people love customizing their computers, and changing the boot animation is just one way to do that. According to Microsoft, they will not support changing the Windows 7 boot animation--but that doesn't mean it can't be done!

In fact, thanks to the hacking skills of many people far more talented than I, it's now easier than ever to customize your Win7 boot animation and get rid of that boring Windows logo :P .

Here are the steps to create your very own custom animation. There are, of course, other ways to do this; I just find this method to be the easiest and quickest method.

*Sorry if it gets confusing around the Game Maker part; I forgot I had kept the previous strip in the same folder when I hit SELECT ALL. Just ignore everything related to my confusion and re-loading of the images :P *

And if you don't want to make your own animations, but you still want a custom animation you've found online, simply skip to Part 2 to learn how to use one.

All the links I mentioned:

Game Maker 8.0 (Trial and/or Full Version): http://www.yoyogames.com/gamemaker/

Win7BootUpdater (32-bit or 64-bit; choose the one for your system): *EDIT* DO NOT USE CODERFORLIFE'S NEW VERSION. IT BREAKS WINDOWS. Use this old version instead: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/11662651/Win7...

Universal Watermark Remover (removes the text after applying a boot animation) http://www.mydigitallife.info/2009/01/0 ... rver-2008/

*NOTE: Somehow the beginning of Part 2 got cut off. Between Part 1 and the beginning of this video, I simply chose File--Save As PNG to create a frame strip. *

Hi!

As the author of Windows 7 Boot Updater, I would like to mention one correction. The software was never actually "breaks Windows" for all people. In the process of fixing many problems for many people I created new problems for some others. However the newest version (released only a few weeks ago) seems to work for almost everyone (only one out of 100s have a complaint). I strongly encourage using the most recent version since the version that is available in the above post actually opens large security holes. Also the newest version has many many new features.

Thanks!
Jeff
