Say i'm changing the folder icon, would i need different .ico file sizes or just the 1to replace|?

You need to replace all the folder icons in imageres.dll and shell32.dll with the same icon formats. One icon usually contains many different formats, like 24bit, 256 etc.

Be carefull when you modify icon in imageres.dll file, it might save all the changes correctly but still it might become corrupted, so pay attention when you modify those icons, especially for icon sizes.
